Consensus on 15 per cent freeship in schools
New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today asked the public schools, established on land allotted at a concessional rate, to provide at least 15 per cent freeship to the students including the children of the employees.
A bench of Justice T S Thakur and Justice S N Agrawal today asked the schools, ''The private unaided schools should arrive at a consensus to provide free education to at least 15 per cent poor students this year. From next year the schools would have to give 15 per cent apart from the admission to the wards of the employees.'' While adjourning the matter till May 14, the court said, ''Take instructions from the school managements and come before us. We will pass an order before May 31, the day court goes on vacation.'' The court-appointed committee had recommended all the 361 public schools, built on subsidized public land, should reserve 20 percent of their total seats for free education to poor students.
On January 31, some public schools had filed a petition challenging the Delhi government's notification for free education to 20 percent of students in schools built on subsidized land, contending that the notification could not be implemented in its present form.
