Cong wants Kalam's idea for two party system debated
New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) Without openly supporting the idea of two party system advocated by President A P J Abdul Kalam at a function at the Central Hall of Parliament here, the Congress today said the idea deserved consideration.
"Any idea coming from the President deserves consideration and needs to be examined from all angles," Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said in a guarded reaction to the President's observations made at the function to commemorate the First War of Independence.
"We must discuss and debate it", he said talking to reporters, adding there was no question of the idea being ignored.
Asked specifically what was the party's views on the subject, he said," We have no views on it. We have heard the idea.
There should be indepth discussion on it." The President had only suggested an idea, he added.
Asked whether it was proper for Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal to create a scene during the speech being read out by Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat at the function, Mr Singhvi said there was no question of a scene created by him. "A view had been expresed by him which may be inconsistent with the view of the Government." Mr Atwal, he said, had only expressed his personal view. Mr Singhvi did not agree with the suggestion that his conduct was improper.
