Cong dismisses reports on Presidential candidate

New Delhi, May 10: The Congress today dismissed media reports about three possible names as having been floated by the party for Presidential election due in July next. ''It is the media which has floated the names as allegedly floated by the Congress,'' Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said replying to a question at his press briefing here.

''No body is denying the meeting and the discussion Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had with Left party leaders,'' Mr Singhvi said, adding ''we are denying the content of the discussion (as reported).

He was commenting on the media report that the Congress had suggested the names of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Congress MP Dr Karan Singh as the possbile names for the President's post to the Left parties to elicit their views.
