Cairn India announces two discoveries in Rajasthan

New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) Cairn India Ltd today announced the discovery of two oil and gas finds in Rajasthan and secured government's permission to extend exploration work in that area, raising the chances of boosting output.

''The two discoveries confirm our belief that the Rajasthan basin is world class and will continue to add incremental value,'' Cairn India Chief Executive Rahul Dhir said.

The company said it had been granted a six-month extension for further appraisal in the northern area of block RJ-ON-90/1.

''The granting of the extension will allow the company to carry out an appraisal programme to delineate and explore the full potential of the Northern Appraisal Area covering an area of 879 square kilometres,'' the company said in a statement.

Government rules allow oil firms to complete exploration activities in a block within a specified period. Cairn's work in the region was hit by severe floods in Rajasthan last year.

UK-based Cairn Energy Plc holds 69 per cent in its India unit.
