Bilaspur students demonstrate simple way of solving traffic chaos
Bangalore, May 10 (UNI) Bharat Mata School of Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh emerged winners in the Volvo Adventure competition-2007 and earned a passage to participate in Global Finals in Sweden later this month.
Their project 'Dissolution of Traffic Chaos', secured the highest scores among 55 Indian school projects and received accolades from the judges for the analysis, planning, action and the successful outcome.
The students of Bharat Mata School formed a team named 'Prehari' and undertook a study to find a solution to everyday traffic chaos in front of their school building. This was creating problem not only for them but also for the commuters who were using the road to go to the nearby railway and bus stations.
Their project proved to be a fantastic success. After it was implemented, officials found out that there was no need to deploy police personnel at the point, unwanted crossing was eliminated, and VIP movements could be arranged without creating hassle to the commuters, according to a release here.
Eric Leblanc, Managing Director, Volvo India said, "Volvo initiated this Global environmental award to encourage young people to proactively participate in environmental education programme and gain International recognition. "This year winners proved that focus on common problem of traffic chaos in our cities and showed that with the help of a simple, but well-coordinated planning, we can help streamline traffic movement," he added.
