Madurai, May 10 (UNI) Turning the heat on the Maran brothers, Mr M K Azhagiri, the elder son of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, today threatened to initiate legal action against the Sun TV network if it continued to implicate him in the attack on Tamil daily ''Dinakaran'' in which three employees were killed.

The legal notice sent to Sun Network Managing Director Kalanidhi Maran, also brother of Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran, demanded that the television channel should immediately desist from broadcasting news items, which were false, defamatory and derogatory.

Dismissing as baseless and frivolous the charges levelled against him, Mr Azhagiri maintained that the allegations were being orchestrated with a malicious intention to tarnish his public image and reputation.

The false propaganda has suppressed material facts, he observed.

Contrary to the news reports, he was never implicated in the murder of CPI(M) councilor Leelavathi and no charge had been framed against him, the Chief Minister's son pointed out.

Denying any role in the attack on Tamil daily ''Dinamalar'' and in the popular Murugan Idly Shop controversy, he said the High Court itself had rejected the allegations against him in the latter as baseless.

Claiming that he had earned his reputation and popular support through public service, Azhagiri warned of initiating appropriate legal action if the news channel failed to stop broadcasting the defamatory news items.

Besides Mr Maran, the notice was sent to the Sun News Channel Editor Mr Raja.
