7 major HEP with 1779 MW under execution, 8 new identified in J

Srinagar, May 10 (UNI) Seven major hydro-electric projects with the total capacity of 1779 MW are under execution in the state under the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) while eight more projects estimating Rs 17,035 crore are likely to be taken up under joint venture programme.

The projects after its completion in five to seven years would generate 3,431 MW power, this was disclosed at a meeting chaired by the State Chief Secretary C Phonsog and Union Secretary Water Resources Gori Chatterji.

Commissioner Indus Water Dr Therja, Executive Director NHPC Raj K Gupta and other senior officers from different departments also attended the meeting, an official spokesman said today.

He said the 7 projects under NHPC include Bursar, Pakul-Dal, Uri-II, Sewa-II, Kishenganga, Nemo, Bazgo and Chuttak.

The state has a total of 20,000 MW power generation potential of which 16,210 MW is identified.

Reviewing the pace of progress on Baghliar power project, the meeting was informed that Rs 3,629 crore have so far been spent on the project out of the total estimates of Rs 4,000 crore.

The Project is expected to be completed by the year end.

He said the project report of the Rs 1,860 crore Baghliar Phase-II project is under formulation It was said in the meeting that Rangrajan Committee has recommended transfer of 1,020 MW Bursar Power Project and 1,000 MW Pakul-Dul power project to the state.
