50 per cent polling during repolls for 7 Assembly seats in UP
Lucknow, May 10 (UNI) Over 50 per cent electorate voted during today's repolling in 54 polling booths of seven Assembly constituencies of Uttar Pradesh.
These included 46 booths of Kayamganj assembly in Farrukhabad district where the Election Commission had ordered repolling after receiving complaints of iregularities in the voters list.
Incidentally, Louise Khurshid, the wife of UP Congress president Salman Khurshid is the Congress candidate from Kayamganj which had gone to polls in the third phase on April 18.
Repolling in eight polling booths were ordered where elections were held in the last phase on Tuesday. Three out of these were in Ayodhya constituency followed by one each in Fazilnagar, Salempur, Sohawal, Laxmipur and Mobarakpur seats.
The repolls were ordered due the faulty EVMs or electoral rolls.
State Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) Anuj Kumar Bishnoi said here that the repolling was peaceful and over 50 per cent of the voters used their democratic right.
For Kayamganj Assembly seat, unprecedent security arrangements were made, with static observers and videography of all voters in all the booths. Besides, Divisional Commissioner, Kanpur was camping at Kayamganj to oversee the repolling.
