Water issue dominates Standing Committee meet
Mumbai, May 9 (UNI) The issue of water shortage dominated the discussions in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Standing Committee meeting today.
The corporators complained about water shortage in their respective wards. They said that there was either a short supply of water in their wards or the water was being supplied at a very low pressure. They also complained of leakages in the water pipelines.
Marol Congress corporator Kamlesh Rai said his ward does not receive enough water and his complaints in this regard, so far, has falen on deaf ears. He said new connection holders in the ward were not receiving sufficient water and this needs to be addressed immediately.
Niyaz Ahmed Vanu of the NCP, too, voiced similar concerns and accused the BMC of adopting a step-motherly attitude towards his ward. High-rises are supllied with plenty of water but the slums are neglected, he accused.
Mangesh Satamkar of Shiv Sena highlighted the need to increase the number of water tankers. He said a tanker each should be provided to every ward.
Standing Committee chairman Ravindra Waikar took note of the complaints and assured that steps will be taken to improve the water supply.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Manu Kumar Srivastava, while informing that the total water pipeline length in the city was around 4000 kms, admitted that most pipes are old.
