AP: TDP cadres bracing up for Mahanadu
Tirupati, May 9: The Chittoor District cadres of Telugu Desam party (TDP) are bracing up to hold the Party's Mahanadu (conference), beginning in the temple town from May 27.
To commemorate the party's silver jubilee year, it was decided to hold the Mahanadu event again in Tirupati, where the first Mahanadu was held by TDP founder and former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao.
Nearly 10,000 TDP leaders and delegates were expected to participate in the three-day conference, which will conclude with a rally and public meeting to be held at Sri Venkateswara University Tarakarama stadium. Samajwadi Party leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar Singh, AIADMK supreme J Jayalalithaa and other national leaders were expected to address the gathering, party sources said here today.
From each Assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh, about 250 party representatives will be attending the mega conference.
During the conference resolutions on several issues pertaining to the power situation, irrigation, Backward Classes reservation, law and order, rampant corruption, mafias and Special Economic Zones would be adopted. The Mahanadu would also deliberate on the current political scenario, both in state and at the national-level besides measures to strengthen the party to prepare for the next assembly elections 2009, the sources added.
Apart from discussing other issues, the conference is likely to take a decision on the formation of a Third front, without the Congress and BJP.
The Party would announce the NTR National Award to be given away in memory of a leader at the Mahanadu, who was instrumental for bringing recognition to Telugu worldover.
