New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) Guru Rabindranath Tagore wrote 2300 songs in his life time which are a great treasure of the world literature.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has paid tribute to the great poet on his 146th birth anniversary by bringing out a DVD of the Hindi version of his songs.
The DVD will be released by Lok Sabha Speaker Som Nath Chatterji at the Balayogi auditorium of Parliament tomorrow evening.
The same day and at the same venue, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inuagurate a series of Doordarshan's programme on Tagore's master piece 'Geetanjali', and UPA chirperson Sonia Gandhi will release a book 'Satya Graha' which is compilation of various writings and records on the movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi.
Giving this information here, Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said that the Tagore DVD to be released by the Speaker will be the first of the series of the 20 DVDs. It contains Tagore's most famous song 'Ekla Chalo Re'.
He said the Ministry had drawn up an elaborate programme to observe the two events---the 146th anniversary of Tagore and the centenary of the Satyagraha movement.
The 'Satyagraha' has been brought out by the publication division of the Ministry with the help of Dr Savita Singh of the Gandhi Smriti.
