Punjab minister calls for upholding Batalvis legacy

Chandigarh, May 9 (UNI) Medical Education and Research and Forest Minister Tikshan Sud called for a joint action of the Punjabi artists and media with Punjabi background for safeguarding the rich moral values and Punjabi culture being influenced by the western society.

He was addressing a huge gathering on the occasion of 'Shiv Kumar Batalivi Night' here at Tagore Theater late last evening in the memory of the great Punjabi poet.

He said that Punjabi singers should come forward for strengthening the bonds of Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat and legacy of rich cultural heritage. The minister also appreciated the young upcoming singers for their remarkable performance on this occasion .

He hoped that these type of events could off set the impact of western music on our traditional and classical music enormously.

Earlier, the Minister paid floral tributes and ignited a lamp in the memory of Shiv Kumar Batalvi. Prominent TV, Radio artists and close associates of Shiv Kumar Batalvi along with art loving people attended the function.
