Punjab Govt. to create a mechanism for speedy clearance of projects

Chandigarh, May 9 (UNI) The Punjab Government will create an effective mechanism for speedy environmental and other related clearance of mega projects in order to put all developmental projects on a fast track in the state.

Stating this here today, Science, Technology and Environment Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said the Government would put in place the fast track clearance mechanism in the Pollution Board and other departments for speedy implementation of the projects.

The Minister took strong exception to what he described as a 'mischievous and misleading' statement of former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, in which the latter had feigned ignorance about the revocation of NOCs of mega projects during the fag end of his tenure.

He accused Mr Amarinder Singh of misrepresenting the facts regarding the implementation of the order passed by Pollution Board revoking the NOC and withdrawing the recommendations of the land use change of the industrial parks and estates. He said that this order was passed on February 17 when the Congress government was still in power.

Mr Majithia said the SAD-BJP Government was committed to build conducive environment for industrial growth. The Government has already started the process of setting up Industrial Development Boards where the industrialists and developers will formulate the industrial policy for the state.

The autonomous industrial boards, he said, will reinforce the faith and trust of industrialists and developers in the government.

This novel experiment initiated on the direction of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal would make the system transparent and eliminate the scope of concealment, false promises and mis-representation of the facts, he added.

This initiative of the Government would make the mega projects viable and expedite their execution, he said.
