Nagpur city district Congress committee dissolved

Mumbai, May 9 (UNI) Coming down heavily on open infighting at the district level that led to the party suffering a jolt in the civic polls, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has dissolved the Nagpur City district committee.

The Nagpur unit of the party was torn in the factionalism of groups led by Union Minister for Renewable Energy Vilas Muttemwar and State Minister for Textiles Satish Chaturvedi, party sources said.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Prabha Rau told UNI that the decision had been taken on the directives of the AICC.

A committee will be re-constituted soon, she said.

Ms Rau said the AICC had received complaints about the functioning of the committee.

Political observers said the dissolution was the fallout of the open infighting between the two groups, which had resulted the Congress lose the civic polls last February.
