Aizawl, May 9 (UNI) Residents of Tlabung took to the streets yesterday to protest the alleged molestation of local girls by a Border Security Force(BSF) jawan on Monday.

The state's largest women's body, the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl(MHIP), demanded removal of the BSF jawan from Tlabung.

Constable Bipan Kumar Singh of the 78 BSF's Delta Company, allegedly went on a drunken rampage at Tlabung bazar and molested 13 girls, including some school going ones.

He was later overpowered by a group of men who happened to be near one of the victims. He was brought to the Mizo Students' Union (MSU) office in Tlabung and later handed over to the police, official sources said.

This was the third time the BSF had a row with the local people in recent times. Earlier this year, the BSF men had beaten up some youths accusing them of being militants while another molestation was also committed by BSF jawans recently.

The Tlabung Mizo Students' Union(MSU) and the victims had lodged FIRs with Tlabung police against the constable who is now in police custody.
