Meghalaya observed World's Red Cross day

Shillong, May 9 (UNI) Meghalaya Governor Banwari Lal Joshi today appealed to all section of the people to join hands with Red Cross society to accomplish the goal for the cause of suffering humanity.

Observing the World Red Cross Day at the Raj Bhawan, Mr Joshi, who is also the president of Red Cross, Meghalaya Branch said it was a challenging task but "we must commit ourselves to carry out the cause further." The Governor at his first public engagement, after assuming the Office, said there were many issues such as resource, manpower and time and urged the people for resource and participation to the society.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Deborach C Marak, who is also the vice Chairman of the Red Cross Society, said that the state government was providing substantial financial help for the medical service rendered by the society. Every year a sum of Rs 5 Lakh is being provided and assured that government would continue to support the healthcare service and other activities carried out by the Red Cross Society in the state.

She said this year's theme ''Together for Humanity'' was appropriate and appealed to people and NGOs to work together for the cause of rural masses who really needs help.
