Chennai, May 9 (UNI) The State Office bearers' 'Tamil Nadu Idainilai Aasiriar Sangam' will observe a day's fast here on June 8 to draw the state government's attention to their demands, including pay anomalies.

The Sangam's State General Secretary A Subramanian told newspersons here today that they were teaching for 6th, 7th and 8th standards.

However, from 1999 onwards, the Government has been appointing Graduates to take classes from 6 to 8th standards. Though they and the graduateteachers were doing the same job, there were many anomalies in their pay scale. They had been fighting for equal pay since 2000.

Observing that their requests to the government were not yielding any fruit, they approached Madras High Court which had directed the government to look into their just demands. But the state government was yet to solve their problem, he alleged.

He said they would intensify the struggle with the support of other teachers' organisations if their demands were not met even after the proposed fast, he added.
