Gujarat, Uganda Govts sign MoU in health field

Gandhinagar, May 9 (UNI) A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed today between the Gujarat and Uganda governments to develop a modern state-of-the-art hospital in Uganda to treat kidney and related diseases and a renal transplantation centre.

The MoU was signed by State Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Bhatt and Uganda Government's Internal Affairs Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda.

The MoU will provide a framework for implementation of a programme for treatment of kidney-related diseases in Uganda, for technical training of health personnel and for academic faculty of Uganda.

As per the MoU agreement, K M Mehta Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) and H L Trivedi Institute of Transplantation Sciences (ITS), Ahmedabad will impart in-depth clinical and technical training to personnel from Uganda at its facilities here.

After the completion of the training, a team of experts from IKDRC and ITS will travel to Uganda to initiate the transplantation programme and support them in the areas of training for dialysis, laboratory technology, nephrology, urology, radiology, renal and transplantation pathology and immunology.

The expenses of the team of experts from Ahmedabad will be borne by Government of Uganda.
