Fraud case against women councillors, husbands

Ashoknagar, MP, May 9 (UNI) A local court has directed registering of cases against Mungawali Nagar Panchayat's five women councillors and their husbands, who represented their spouses during panchayat meetings.

Hearing an application of Mungawali Nagar Panchayat's former Vice-Chairman Lakhan Singh Gurjar, Judge Ashok Verma also directed registering of fraud case against the then Chief Nagar Panchayat Officer B P Mathur.

The husbands of the women councillors had been accused of taking part in the meetings of the panchayats in place of their wives and forging their signatures.

The court had got preliminary investigation of some documents done by police in this regard.

Mr Gurjar, who was removed via a 'no-confidence motion' led by women in the beginning of this year, had filed an application in the court on February 22.

A case was also pending with the Ashoknagar Collector for terminating the membership of these women councillors.
