FB leader Ashok Ghosh to convene all party meeting
Kolkata, May 9 (UNI) Initiating move for a breakthrough in the Nandigram standoff, the ruling Left Front today unanimously accepted a proposal of Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee for a state-level all-party meeting, to be convened by veteran Forward Bloc leader Ashok Ghosh.
'' The Left Front unanimously accepted the proposal for all-party talks, that Ms Banerjee gave me yesterday to stop the unabated clashes and restore peace in Nandigram. There will be no condition of any party for holding dialogues,'' Mr Ghosh announced at a press conference.
The decision, already conveyed to Ms Banerjee, was taken following talks among the top leaders of the Front partners after Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Left Front Chairman Biman Basu readily agreed to the Trinamool leader's proposal, though it clearly expressed lack of faith in the CPI(M) and the state Government.
The Trinamool leader, who had been refusing to participate in any all-party meeting unless it was called by the Governor, had telephoned Mr Ghosh last night requesting him to call an all-party meeting as the most senior leader in the Front.
Assuring her of all cooperation, Mr Ghosh met the Chief Minister and the senior leaders of the RSP and CPI besides talking over phone to the Left Front Chairman.
Evolving modalities for the proposed all-party meeting, which had been eluding for more than four months, the Front leaders proposed that an all-party meeting be convened in East Midnapore district to identify reasons of the prevailing unrest and work on remedial measures before a state-level meeting held thorough discussions to perpetuate peace in the area.
