Commissions constituted for welfare of OBCs and minorities: CM
Shimla, May 9 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said his government had constituted different commissions to cater for the welfare and socio-economic upliftment of the minorities and other backward sections (OBCs) of the society.
Human Rights Commission, Lokayukta, Women Commission, Minorities Commission and Backward Classes Commission and other welfare boards had been created to advise the state government over the steps to ne initiated for the minorities and OBCs, he said here.
Mr Singh told this to a delegation of the State Backward Classes Commission, led by its Chairman K C Sod, that called on him here.
Reiterating his government's resolve for the upliftment of the minorities and OBCs, he said efforts were on to strengthen the commissions and boards by giving them more teeth.
He said the commissions and boards were being vested with more powers to make them functional with neutrality and fairness.
The State Backward Classes Commission has been given the responsibility to advise the government on initiating steps to improve the lot of the OBCs, he said.
State Chief Secretary S S Parmar was also present on the occasion.
