Sirsi, May 9 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today assured the people of this city and the surrounding taluks that he would make efforts for creation of a new district from Uttara Kannada district with Sirsi as headquarters.

Addressing presspersons at Garadolli village in Haliyal taluk of Uttara Kannada district after his village stay he said that people of this part of the district were finding it difficult to go to district headquarters Karwar for office works.

There was a need to make Sirsi a separate district that includes taluks like Siddapur, Yellapur, Mundgod and Haliyal taluks for better administration, he said.

Kumaraswamy expressed concern over increase in cases of forest thefts. "We will not let this loot to continue. Strict action will be taken against the culprits. Media should help create awareness among the people. I have learnt that there has been lot of encroachment of government land in this district. The government will deal firmly with encroaches," he said.

To a question Mr Kumaraswamy said the government was waiting for a Supreme Court order to regularise daily wage employees in the state. A Sub-Committee would be formed to find a solution to this problem, he said.
