Central aid sought for open air museum

Raipur, May 9 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh government has sought central aid of Rs 125 crore for developing an open air museum spread over 200 acres to showcase the state's rich art and cultural heritage.

The proposal to seek assistance from the Centre was finalised at a high-level meeting presided over by Revenue and Tourism Minister Brijmohan Aggarwal yesterday, official sources said.

President A P J Abdul Kalam had laid the foundation stone of ''Purkhauti Muktangan'' in November last year at Uparwara village, 18 km from here. Its first phase covers 26 acres.

A detailed discussion was held about the 'concept plan', including construction of the state's giant map, covering 21 acres, exhibiting the region's art, culture and natural resources.

Also proposed in its vicinity is a Scienc Park and Botanical Park and a provision for permanent light and sound programme. The state government plans to develop the open air museum as a major tourist attraction.
