Braila Lake is now Salim Ali Jubba Sahni Bird Sanctuary

Patna, May 9 (UNI) Braila Lake, home of many colourful avians, in Bihar's Vaishali district, added a new feather when the local government renamed it ''Salim Ali-Jubba Sahni Bird Sanctuary'' after the famous ornithologist.

The lake is a natural home for some 59 species of migratory birds and about 106 variety of local avians including Teals Cormarants, Eagle, White Breasted King Fisher, Pied, Egreis poonbill, Pelicans, Coots, Grebes, Green parrot, Gull and Lalsar and many others.

Oak Bhatel, found on marshy surface was very common here and locally referred as ''Ejara''. It was a favourite tree of the birds.

Red-Cotton too was very common here alonwith other local plants.

The lake, situated at Braila village under Patepur block, is a lifeline to several biological creatures like Pragmitis, Tifa, Hydrila, Utroculeria and other micro-organisms.

The water of the flows through various local rivers including Noon and finally joined the famous Budhi Gandak.
