Chandigarh, May 9 (UNI) In a benevolent gesture, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal ordered the government to sanction Rs 3.5 lakh from the Chief Ministers Relief Fund to a student to enable him to participate in an international competition to be hosted by NASA in the USA.

This amount would enable Dr Gagandeep Singh, a MBBS who is pursuing internship at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Patiala, to participate in the International Settlement Designing Competition being held at Houston in USA by NASA in July this year.

Dr Gagandeep Singh, son of a clerk who was selected as Advisor to the 12-member team representing Asia in the competition did not have enough funds to pursue this venture.

His case was recommended by the Principal of the Medical College through Director Medical Education and Research to the Chief Minister for the sanction of requisite financial assistance.

The applicant met the Chief Minister today at the 'Sangat Darshan' and Mr Badal immediately acceded to his request and asked the authorities to sanction the requisite amount forthwith.

While interacting with the student, the Chief Minister said that it was really a matter of great honour for the state that he had been selected for this prestigious competition. Moreover, it was his endeavour to ensure that the brilliant and deserving students do not suffer in their professional career just for the want of financial resources.

Food and Supplies and IT Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon who was also present in the 'Sangat Darshan' appreciated Dr Gagandeep Singh's feat for bringing laurels to the state.
