Attack on Christians to push the Religous Bill: Aruna Roy
Jaipur, May 9 (UNI) Magsaysay awardee and noted social activist Aruna Roy alleged that the recent spate of attack on Christians in the guise of conversion by the Sangh Pariwar was to push through the controversial Rajasthan Religious Freedom Bill 2006 pending with the Governor for years.
Ms Roy in a letter to Rajasthan Governor Pratibha Patil said ''some self styled religious communal organisations have been active in the state in creating and spreading an atmosphere of religious hatred and contempt. These organisations have repeatedly used the bogey of religious conversion to target Christian preachers, their educational institutions and other organisations. The motive behind all this is to deliberately manipulate sentiments for pushing through the pending Rajasthan Religious Freedom Bill 2006 in the state.'' She pointed out that there has been no substantive proof of instances where conversion have happened by force or allurement in the state. On the other hand merely on the basis of false allegations and suspicion numerous attacks have been engineered on the Christians.
The most underlying concern is the violation of the Constitutional rights of all minorities, their right to worship and self expression.
She asked the Governor to direct the Rajasthan government to take strong administraive measures to ensure that such incidence were not repeated in the state in future.
