World Red Cross day celebrated in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, May 8 (UNI) World Red Cross day was celebrated here with blood donations camps, release of special greeting cards and distribution of special material for the physically challenged.
The Indian Red Cross Society, UT Chandigarh branch organised voluntary blood donation camp and felicitation function to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross Movement. Over 90 units of blood was collected in the camp.
Mrs Jean Rodrigues, wife of UT Administrator S F Rodrigues, was the chief guest at the felicitation function organised to honour the individuals for their contribution towards the goal and functions of Indian Red Cross Society, Chandigarh branch.
Those felicitated included DPI (Schools), Mr. S.K. Setia, Director, PGI, Chandigarh, Prof. K.K. Talwar, Director Health Services, Dr.
M.S. Bains, Project Director, State AIDS Control Society, Chandigarh, Dr Sonia Trikha and Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh, Dr. Neelam Marwaha.
Mrs Rodrigues also released greeting cards of the paintings, which were declared as the three best entries in the painting competition organised on 14th November, 2006, Children's Day on the occasion of launch of the Junior and Youth Red Cross Wings of the Red Cross Society, Chandigarh Branch.
Ten Tricycles fitted with ISD/ STD PCO phones were presented to the physically challenged people. The mobile PCOs have been specially fabricated by a leading telephone mobile company to meet the needs of physically challenged people.
