Way cleared for extension of fishing port
Mangalore, May 8 (UNI) Major hurdle impeding expansion of the Fisheries Port here was today cleared with an agreement was reached the clear the way for transfer of land adjoining the port here.
Sources at the port said the Department of ports had agreed to hand over the land measuring 700 mts by 40 mts near Hoigebazar.
Aproposal would be sent the Central Government for conducting a feasibility report of the project.
The State Fisheries Department had submitted a proposal for the third phase expansion of the fisheries port about two years back at an estimated cost of Rs 70 crore to facilitate for anchoring 800 fisheries boats.
At present, there were a total of 1900 boats which were operating in the port having a total warf length of 600 mts. The central team which was expected here for conducting survey work would prepare the economic viability and cost of the project, the sources added.
