Two victims succumb to blast injuries

Guwahati, May 8 (UNI) Two hindi-speaking persons today succumbed to injuries they had sustained in the blast at Tinsukia in upper Asom on May 4.

A police official said Balaram Balmiki and Dharma Kumar were undergoing treatment at the Asom Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh after sustaining serious injuries in the blast at Siding Bazar on Chamber Road in the heart of Tinsukia town.

They died at the hospital this morning.

Altogether eight people, six of them Hindi-speaking, were injured in the blast.

The ULFA has, of late, been targetting the Hindi-speaking community, killing over 80 people from the community since January last.

On May 6, the outfit exploded an IED near the Sani Mandir of Fancy Bazar of Guwahati, injuring 17 people. The Fancy Bazar area is a business hub of the city and maistly inhabited by Hindi-speaking people.

This was the fourth blast in the area in a span of seven months.

A dozen people, mostly Hindi-speaking, were killed in another strike in the Chai Gali area of Fancy Bazar on November 5 last.

The ULFA had warned the non-indigenous people either to leave the state or face dire consequences.
