TN to enact legislation to check selling industrial lands

Chennai, May 8 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government will enact legislation, providing for stringent punishment, including imprisonment for those selling lands allotted for industrial purposes, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi told the State Assembly today.

He was replying to a question raised by Deputy Leader of the Opposition O Panneerselvam (AIADMK), who alleged that several units in Ambattur Industrial Estate had been closed as certain companies, after getting lands from the Government for setting up industries, had sold it out for a higher amount as the land value had appreciated.

Mr Karunanidhi said selling lands after obtaining it from the Government for a specific purpose was wrong and should not be allowed.
