Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, May 8 (UNI) A lower court has issued a summons to senior Kanchi mutt seer Jayendra Saraswati to appear before it on June 21 in a case pertaining to misappropriating the mutt accounts.
The Kancheepuram First Class Judicial Magistrate Court also issued summonses to mutt Manager Sundaresa Iyer, mutt Accountant Kaladi Viswanathan, besides the pontiff, to hand over copies of the charge sheet in the case.
The case is related to misappropriation of the mutt funds after alleged payment of Rs 55 lakh to eliminate Kancheepuram Varadaraja Perumal temple Manager Sankararaman. The seer, Sundaresa Iyer and Mr Viswanathan have been arraigned as accused. Viswanathan was arrested in the case registered on January 4, 2005.
A 61-page chargesheet was filed in the case last January.
Subsequently, the court had issued summonses to the accused several times to hand over a copy of the chargesheet, but to no avail. As the accused did not turn up on May 4 either, the court issued the summonses for June 21.
