Social security Bill for fishermen, labourers introduced

Chennai, May 8 (UNI) A Bill, seeking to provide for comprehensive social security and for ensuring the well being of fishermen and labourers, was introduced in the state Assembly today.

According to the statement of objects and reasons for the Bill, introduced by Minister for Fisheries K P P Samy, the benefits given to landless agricultural labourers and farmers under social security, and welfare schemes would be extended to fishermen.

Women engaged in activities like drying and sale of fish would also be covered under the scheme and a sum of Rs five crore had been provided for this purpose, according to the Bill.

UNI
