Bangalore, May 8 (UNI) With a view to minimising the hardship faced by public in getting train tickets, steps were being taken to make the tickets available in Post Offices throughout the country.

Informing this to newspersons here today, South Western Railway (SWR) General Manager Praveen Kumar said the Railway Board has initiated dialogue with Postal authorities wherein Post Offices might be authorised to sell Railway tickets for various destinations.

He said one Computer terminal would be provided to each post office and the traveling public, instead of standing in a queue, could purchase tickets from the nearest Post Office.

Replying to a question on the introduction of passenger service between Hassan and Mangalore, Mr Kumar said there was some hitch in commencing the service, as the Railway Safety Cell had stipulated condition that only one train at a time, either a passenger or a goods train could be run on the newly-laid track for safety reasons since the track passed through places were landslides were common.

''However, we are confident that the new track was capable of withstanding the load of both passenger as well as goods train at a time. The Railway Board has been asked to direct the Safety Cell to lift the condition. I am sure the issue would be solved and the much awaited service may begin soon,'' he added.
