PM to file nomination for RS seat from Asom

New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh left here today for Guwahati to file his nomination for contesting the May 24 biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from Asom.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi visited the 7, Race Course Road residence of Dr Singh to see him off. The Prime Minsiter has been a member of the Upper House since 1991.

The Election Commission has already announced the schedule to fill up the two Rajya Sabha seats from Asom that will fall vacant on June 14 following the completion of term by Dr Singh and Mr Indramoni Bora.

According to the schedule, the last date for filing of nominations is May 14. Scrutiny will take place on May 15, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 17.

Counting of votes will be taken up at 1700 hrs on May 24 immediately after the voting to be held from 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs.
