Pilferage of electricity rampant in Bihar: Rabri

Patna, May 8 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition Rabri Devi has alleged that the Nitish Kumar Government had failed to check rampant pilferage of electricity in Bihar.

Holding the state government responsible for failing to check the pilferage of electricity, the former Chief Minister said after coming to power Mr Kumar had vowed to check the theft but even after one and half years of his rule, he had failed to keep his promises.

She alleged that the state government was toally inert and ineffective and could not muster courage to take action against those involved in such activities.

She said the government had also announced to fix responsibility on the officers concerned and take action against them but so far no official had been booked for negligence and slackness.

She rued about the grim power situation in the state and said that the commoners were the ultimate sufferers as they had to face the ordeal.

She also drew the government's attention towards wastage of electricity and alleged that it was being misused by powerful poeple.

She said the farmers were the worst sufferers as they were unable to continue with their farming.

Meanwhile, admitting pilferage of electricity, the Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) today appealed to the consumers to avoid pilferage of electricity.

In an official communique, the BSEB said it had received complaints of pilferage of electricity mostly in the rural areas for running different mills of flour, rice, oil and thrashers, for running pumping sets and cottage industries.

Such consumers were illegally using electricity without any bonafide connection.

The BSEB said it had constituted a special team for conducting raids and announced to take action against those using electricity illegally.
