Orissa Proposes Rs 1251 Cr Irrigation Project
Bhubaneswar, May 8 (UNI) The Orissa Government has proposed to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) a Rs 1251 crore project to strengthen the existing irrigation system and bring more land under irrigation facilities.
Both the Orissa Government and the ADB have been jointly preparing the project report to be implemented under the Orissa Integrated Irrigation Agriculture and Water Management (OIAWM).
ADB Country Director Tadashi Kondo and Team leader Kenechi Yokohama today called on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the state secretariat to discuss the OIAWM projects.
Official sources said under the projects to be funded by the ADB, the irrigation facilities to over 3 lakh hectares land would be strengthened while an additional 30,000 hectares land would come under new irrigation facility.
The Chief Minister had stressed the need for technical training for water conservation to the farmers in the Pani Panchayat areas so that they could produce two crops in a year.
