Bhopal, May 8 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government has ordered closing down of 65 non-affiliated medical colleges -- being run for almost two decades -- in 21 districts under the rules of Madhya Pradesh Chikitsa Shiksha Sanstha Niyantran Adhiniyam, 1973.

Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi said these institutes had reportedly awarded diplomas, graduate and post-graduate degrees in electropathy, electro homeopathy etc disciplines to over 30,000 people without providing education.

None of these doctors were in government service.

He said the colleges did not possess requisite infrastructure for imparting medical education and were not recognised by the government.

The decision would improve medical services and restrict the number of people obtaining fake degrees.

Mr Vishnoi said the government was collecting evidence against the directors of the institute for registering cases against them.

A meeting of medical officials would be called for identifying such institutes and directions would be issued for registering cases against them.

The Health Minister said the government had formed new rules for improving medical services in the state on June 14, 2006, and had made obtaining permission for all institutes imparting medical education compulsory.

In this regard, 35 institutes had informed the government regarding running various courses and sought permission for continuing them.

He said the government had given the responsibility of monitoring medical education to the state medical council, the Madhya Pradesh State Homeopathy Council and the Madhya Pradesh Ayurvedic and Naturopathy Board.
