Landgrabbers misuse Kiran Bedi's name to usurp land: CPI

Hyderabad, May 8 (UNI) Landgrabbers in Andhra Pradesh, allegedly in connivance with revenue officials, have misused Police Officer Kiran Bedi's name to usurp Government lands in a remote Poli village, CPI State Secretary K Narayana claimed today.

In an effort to usurp government lands once allocated to Dalits and taken back and reallocated to freedom fighters, landgrabbers got 15 acres of land registered in her name in the village in Srikalahasti Mandal of Chittor District, he contended at a press conference here.

The name of another IPS officer Gopinath Reddy, was among those whose names have been misused by the landgrabbers to corner Government lands once assigned to Dalits, he claimed, asserting that the CPI, along with other Left parties, would intensify stir to press for distribution of land to the weaker sections of people.

The party would identify all such lands and hoist party flags in support of the poor people.

Going by the experience of Chattisgarh, the Congress Government should cancel its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the metals major Jindal steel company for extraction of bauxite from Vizianagaram district and avoid displacement of tribals and ecological problems because of the extraction plant.

He asked the State Government to register cases against forest officials, who had torched the houses of tribals in Srikakulam district on the pretext of occupation of Forest land and ensure rebuilding of their houses.
