HP and Haryana join hands to market tourism potential

Shimla, May 8 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said his government will explore possibilities of joining hands with Haryana in marketing its tourism potential through its various channels besides promoting village tourism in a big way.

The state government would extend all possible help in promoting tourism with mutual cooperation of Haryana, he said in a meeting with Haryana's Tourism Minister Kiran Chaudhary who called on him here along with a high level delegation.

Mr Singh said infrastructure was being improved in various parts of the state to attract high end tourists.

Asserting the need to explore natural, religious, heritage, adventure, village and allied activities for tourism promotion, he said his government was committed for promoting village tourism by creating necessary infrastructure at the village level by offering accommodation in rural houses.

He said such houses would be registered only after ascertaining the required infrastructure according to the norms laid down by the government.

Besides, promoting self-employment and employment avenues to the villagers near their homes, it would give a major boost to tourism industry at the village level, he said.

Over eight million tourists who visited the state last year contributed significantly in announcing the emergence of the state as one of the best places to be visited in the country, he said.
