Eviction stayed on land to be acquired for Smart City project

Kochi, May (UNI) The Kerala high court today directed the district collector, Ernakulam, not to disposses 25 petitioners from their property, earmarked for acquisition for the Smart City infopark project here.

Justice T R Ramachandran Nair passed the order on a petition filed by Mr A P Backer and 24 others who approached the court seeking a direction to restrain the district collector and special tahasildar from forcefully evicting them and their family members from their dwelling place.

According to the petitioners, the acquisition proceedings for the Smart City project, initiated in 2004, had lapsed as the government had failed to announce the award in the stipulated time period of two years.
