Congress claims to win the 2008 Assembly Elections in Nagaland
Kohima, May 8 (UNI) The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee(NPCC) feels confident as it is gearing up its frontal organisations to contest the February 2008 General Assembly Elections in the state.
Speaking to media persons here, NPCC President Hokheto Sumi today said that he has ruled out any pre-poll alliance with other "like-minded" parties and that the Congress will go alone.
While the assembly election preparations were on, Mr Hokheto claimed that the Congress party will come to power in the State Assembly in the next elections.
He said that preparations for the next Assembly Elections has already been taken up from the grass root level and aspirants are coming in for their candidatures in the assembly constituencies.
On the return of former Nagaland chief minister and present Governor of Goa, S C Jamir, Mr Hokheto said the NPCC was still taking advice from Mr Jamir since he was the most senior leader to join the state politics.
Reacting to claims made by former BJP state unit president and Parliamentary Secretary M C Konyak that BJP will win 15 seats in the coming elections, Mr Hokheto remarked that the BJP was gradually vanishing from the state.
''In the recently concluded by-elections in the state, BJP was able to manage only one seat out of two seats, to field their candidate unsuccessfully'' he added.
