Cong leaves it to Speaker to decide on Shahbuddin
New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) The Congress today said it was upto Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to decide on disqualification of RJD MP Shahbuddin, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping and murder of a CPI-ML worker.
"The Congress has always believed in maintaining moral standards,'' Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said, adding it is only for the Speaker to decide on the RJD MP's disqualification.
Replying to a question on reported intrusion of Chinese troops in Arunchal Pradesh, he said, Rest assured if there is any credibility in the report, then two Chief Ministers including that of Arunchal Pradesh and the Defence Minister would look into it.
''We will not allow another Kargil to take place again," Mr Singhvi asserted at a press briefing in the Parliament precincts Asked about the prospects of the Congress in the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Singhvi expressed the party's confidence about emerging with good results. The party would play a very important role in Government formation there, he said, adding until the full statistics about the voting did not come, it was all mere speculation.
