Panaji, May 8 (UNI) Congress MP from North Goa, Churchil Alemao today resigned from the party and also the House.

He submitted his resignation letters to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Talking to UNI on telephone, Mr Churchil, who raised a banner of revolt against the leadership of the party in Goa for allegedly ignoring the genuine interest of the island and the Goans, said, he would lead the 'Save Goa Front' regional outfit here to field its candidates in 30 to 35 assembly segments for the June 2 polls.

He said, he would contest from Navelim constituency against his political rival and Industries Minister Luizinho Faleiro.

He said he would come back to Goa tomorrow to announce his future course of action even as the filing of nominations began today for the June 2 polls.

Interestingly, Churchil and Luizinho were former Chief Ministers.

Through vitupertive campaigns, day in and day out, he had nailed the Congress leadership including Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane for their, what he termed, 'anti-goan' and 'retrograde policies'.

The GPCC had slapped a show cause notice against him for anti-party activities earlier but failed to initiate action saying the high command would take care of it.
