Shimla, May 8 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh unit of the BJP today termed the Congress Party's manifesto for Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) elections a ''bundle of lies and self contradictory''.

Addressing press conference here, former state party president Suresh Bhardwaj said the Congress, which has maintained its stranglehold over the Shimla MC for the last 20 years, has merely repeated several of its promises.

He said the Congress had not contributed much in terms of development and had failed miserably in finding solutions to the drinking water supply and issues related to sewerage, parking, congestion on roads, cleanliness and street lights.

The manifesto claims to have improved the sewerage system of the town, but the fact was that several hundred people fell ill due to jaundice recently, proving the hollowness of their claims, he said.

The BJP leader alleged that the Congress had not kept its promises, which it had committed in its last manifesto, thereby misleading the public.

Referring to lack of parking spaces in the town, he said the previous BJP Government of P K Dhumal had conceived and constructed additional parking places in the town.

He also demanded the removal of hoardings put up by the Congress at various places in the town, saying it was a violation of the model code of conduct.
