APHRC member says human rights scope broadened

Visakhapatnam, May 8 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Human Rights Commission (APHRC) Member E Ismail today said the scope of human rights had widened and now encompassed issues like safe drinking water, primary education and basic health.

Talking to newspersons here after touring Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhappatnam Districts to inquire about specific pending cases of human rights violation, Mr Ismail ''We are closely monitoring the education programme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan' and if it operates in the desired way then in a decade most of the children in the country would have basic education which would bring numerous changes in the society,''he said.

He also added people could approach him with petitions on human rights violation during the tours.
