After hottest day yesterday, normal weather returns in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 8 (UNI) After witnessing hottest day of the season, it was near normal weather today in Kashmir due to early morning showers, bringing the much-needed relief to the people of the valley.
For the first time the minimum and maximum temperature was almost normal, a weather office spokesman told UNI.
Against 29.7 degrees Celsius, eight degrees above normal yesterday, the maximum temperature today was 22.4 degree, he said, adding similarly the minimum was also 12.4, which too was normal.
Yesterday was the hottest day of the season so far.
It was pleasent weather after morning showers for about two hours.
It said Pahalgam and other hill resorts, which also witnessed rising temperatures during the past one month, also recorded some rains, bringing down the temperature, much to the delight of hundreds of tourists. In Pahalgam, the maximum stood at 19.4 degrees against yesterday 26.0 degrees.
The weather office predicted rain and thundershowers at several places across the state.
The hottest night of this season in the Kashmir valley with the minimum temprature recorded at 15.2 degrees was recorded on May three.
The highest temperature recorded in Kashmir during the month of April was on April 20, 1946 when the mercury rose to 31.1 degrees the weather office said.
On April 30, 1999, the maximum temperature was recorded at 30.2 degrees while it stood at 28.7 degrees on April 28, 1993.
The highest ever temperature recorded in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during the past 80 years was on June 29, 1978 when the mercury had gone up to 37.8 degrees.
