New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) After two days of cool weather, the mercury in the capital today recorded a rise even as weathermen held forth the possibility of another spell of duststorms or thunderstorms in the next few days under the influence of a fresh Western disturbance.

After two days of cool weather which saw rains and clouds bringing down the mercury to 32.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday and 37.3 degrees yesterday, sun shone clear and bright today, leading to a rise in maximum to 40.2 degrees.

Though the maximum of 40.2 degrees Celsius was still the normal temperature at this time of the year, the rise in mercury, coupled with rise in humidity, abated coolness in the air.

The next 48 hours could, however, see a return to cool weather with the weathermen forecasting duststorms or thunderstorms, accompanied by squalls, in Delhi and other parts of Northwest India under the influence of a Western disturbance originating from Jammu and Kashmir.

They had forecast a drop in maximum temperature to 39 degrees tomorrow.

The last few days witnessed a coolness in the air in Delhi brought about by an upper air circulation.

Rains and strong thunderstorms on Sunday plummeted day temperatures by 7.5 degrees Celsius to 31.5 degrees.
