47 farmers arrested for staging road blockade

Puducherry, May 8 (UNI) As many as 47 farmers were arrested for staging road blockade on Cuddalore-Puducherry road near Kannikoil here today.

Police said the agitation was staged demanding action against the officials of the Puducherry regulatory market, who had an altercation yesterday with the farmers of Bahour.

In yesterday's incident some officials and farmers were injured and police had registered seperate cases.

The agitating farmers demanded that the officials who were responsible for the incident be suspended and arrested.

All shops remained closed to register their protest against the incident.

Though Chief Minister N Rangasamy assured to hold talks with both the sections, the farmers continued with their agitation until they were arrested and removed.
