Works on Polavaram project underway: Minister

Visakhapatnam, May 7 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister P Lakshmaiah today said the work on the Palavaram projects and on the right canal were underway.

Addressig a news conference here, he said work on the left canal would begin in two days.

Mr Lakshmaiah said tenders had been called for Vamshadhara Nagavali Rivers Water Diversion works. Works on the 285-crore project would start immediately, he added.

Modernisation works of the 15 medium irrigation projects and Godavari, Vamashadhara and Nagavalli Deltas would be taken up with assistance from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.

He said the World Bank had approved Rs 636.91 crore for the modernisation of 29 small projects of the Peddru and Chennaraya Sagar.
