Vigilance IG to probe illegal encroachment of KSEB's land

Thiruvananthapuram, May 7 (UNI) The Kerala government has appointed Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) Inspector General (Vigilance) Mahesh Kumar Singla to probe the illegal encroachment of the Board's land in Munnar in Idukki district.

Mr Singla had been asked to submit the report in three weeks, State Electricity Minister A K Balan told reporters here.

Out of the KSEB's 2,004 hectare land, 250 acres had been unauthorisedly encroached and once the IG (Vigilance) submits report, the Chief Minister would be asked to take stern action, he said.

The Harison Malayalam Limited had encroached the KSEB's 11.84 hectare and the Tata Tea company's about 6.48 hectare land in Munnar, he said adding that apart from this, several individuals had also encroached government land.

Mr Balan, who visited Munnar yesterday, also alleged that two resorts belonging to former Congress MLA A K Mani's relatives were set up on the KSEB land in the catchment area of the Pallivasal reservoir.

Regarding the Pallivasal project, he said the Hydel project would be completed within four years.

The land acquisition for the project had been started, he said adding that it would be completed this week.
